This policy explains what information Chocolate Critic (chocolatecritic.com) collects when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. The site is owned and run by Kristinn Sævar in Reykjavík, Iceland, who is responsible for the processing of your personal data. Questions: kristinnsms@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Contact form and email. If you contact us, we receive your name, email address and message, and use them only to reply.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, we store the name, email address and comment you enter, plus your IP address and browser user agent to help detect spam. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if you use it; Gravatar’s privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
- Usage data. Pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived, collected through cookies as described below.
We do not sell personal data.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. This site uses:
- Essential cookies set by WordPress, for example to remember your details when you comment.
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics, which tell us how many people visit and which pages are read. Google’s own policy is at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Advertising cookies, described in the next section.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work as intended if you do.
Advertising: Google AdSense
This site shows ads served by Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
How Google uses information from sites that use its services is explained at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Where the law requires it, for example for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before advertising cookies are used.
Affiliate links: Amazon Associates
Some articles contain links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, Chocolate Critic earns from qualifying purchases. When you click such a link, Amazon may set cookies to record that the visit came from this site. Amazon’s privacy notice applies to anything you do on Amazon.
Embedded content
Articles may include embedded content (for example videos). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that website, and it may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with it.
How long we keep data
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be approved automatically. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with them. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics retention settings.
Legal basis and your rights
We process personal data on the basis of your consent (advertising and analytics cookies where consent is required), our legitimate interest in running and improving the site, and, when you contact us, to answer you. Under the GDPR and Icelandic data-protection law you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email kristinnsms@gmail.com to exercise these rights. You can also complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, Persónuvernd.
Where data goes
Data collected by Google and Amazon may be processed outside Iceland and the EEA, including in the United States, under those companies’ own safeguards.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
